Community Running Buddy
Be a friend and running partner to one of our girls!
The most important day for nearly every GOTR girl is the Season Finale 5K…a true culmination and celebration of all their hard work! The role of a Community Running Buddy is to accompany and encourage the girls through their experience at this 5k.
Many of the girls will be accompanied by a parent or family friend who serves as their running buddy. However, some girls don’t have an adult who can run with them, so we ask community members to run with these girls and to cheer them on all along the course. This means running or walking along side them at their pace, and encouraging them to do their best. It also recognizing and honoring their limits and praising their efforts. The goal of the season finale 5K is for the girls to do their best and HAVE FUN! Girls are not encouraged to race competitively, but rather are encouraged to reach their own individual goals. For most girls, that means making it to the finish-line…whether by walking, running or skipping.
Running buddies should be enthusiastic, fun-loving, patient, supportive, and be able to walk, run or jog a 5K (that’s 3.1 miles).
To join us for our biggest day of the year and become a Community Running Buddy, visit the GIRLS ON THE RUN table near the check in area on race day.
We hope to see you out there!
